Spider-Man is one of the most beloved heroes in the Marvel landscape and even comics itself. He is the everyman character that struggles to pay bills and complete work assignment, which is why he is so beloved.

Within Marvel, he is often a street-level character, mixing it in the Big Apple alongside the likes of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. However, with his brains and strength, he has fought Avengers-level threats singlehandedly. From the Hulk to the Tri-Sentinel, Spider-Man is not a hero to be underestimated, especially as he pulls his punches most of the time.

Throughout the multiverse, there are many different incarnations of the wall-crawler, some heroic and others horrific. With the advent of the Spider-Verse, it has opened up Spider-Man and his supporting cast to many more possibilities not afforded to them in the mainline universe. Said multiverse has provided many fan-favourite additions to Marvel such as Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, and Spider-Gwen.

Starting with the original Spider-Man, first appearing in 1962 within the pages of Amazing Fantasy #15. He is the baseline for all Spider-Men and Spider-Women that have appeared in Marvel's comics.

With the proportional strength of a spider, Peter Parker's strength and agility are higher than that of the average human. He can lift nearly 10 tons and move at incredible speeds with enough grace and accuracy to frustrate his opponents. Besides, Spidey can maintain these feats while injured. Also, Spidey's web-shooters give him the ability to traverse the streets of New York and incapacitate criminals.

However, Spider-Man's crown jewel power is his spider-sense, which gives him the edge in combat as an early warning system, should he choose to listen to it.

Spider-Man stands alongside other heroes like Iron Man and Captain America as a strong character. Otto Octavius discovered that Spider-Man actually pulls his punches so he doesn't cause serious injury, indicating that Spidey mostly toys with his enemies before defeating them.
