Harley Quinn. Making little boys confused circa 1992. Intended as a one-off character in Batman: The Animated Series episode Jokers Flavour, Harleys popularity soared like a Seal single from Space Jam and she became an overnight sensation, like that Youtuber whose name you forgot because their fifteen minutes of fame was fifteen minutes too long. After appearing in more episodes, Harley was the first Batman character to be created for another medium and then established in-canon in the comics. Created by Paul Dini and designed by Bruce Timm, two men who had more influence on your childhood then youll ever know, the concept of Harley was inspired by actor Arleen Sorkin, who once wore a jester costume in an episode of Days of Our Lives. Arleen even came in to voice the character and the psychopathic psychiatrist that we all know and love was born. In a weird way, although Harley is the poster girl for spousal abuse, shes somewhat of a feminist icon because she is equally smart, sexy, strong and prone to slaughter. Shes less of a cartoon character than The Joker and this instantly makes her more sympathetic and relatable. It says a lot about a character when shes the true star in a movie that features Jared Letos Joker and the Fresh Prince of Bell Air. And only a small amount of that is due to Australias greatest export being cast in the role for the big screen debut of Harley. In celebration of this monumental occasion, lets take a look as some of the more WTF worthy moments featuring everyones favourite harlequin (because we can't really think of any others).
