Let the words wash through you.
One of the greatest treats in movies is when an actor completely takes over a scene, delivering a monologue of epic proportions. These monologues can be chill inducing, and allows us viewers get lost in a trance like state, listening intently to every word of their speech.
A monologue can happen within several given scenarios. Most often they occur as speeches, however they sometimes occur as a character talking directly to certain characters. All other characters fall silent, and the camera slowly focuses in on the person that is delivering the monologue.
These moments have the ability to completely change the way that a character is viewed, or even change the entire meaning and trajectory of the film. In order for these scenes to be as powerful as they are, the writing needs to be superb, and the acting even better.
This list covers a variety of different films, as well as a variety of different monologues. Some of the monologues in these films are deeply iconic, while others are lesser known, yet still as awe inspiring as the iconic ones. Sit back, pop some popcorn, and enjoy this list of amazing movie monologues.
10. Blade Runner - Tears In Rain
This is one of the shorter monologues found in movies, and yet it is one of the most memorable and impactful. This short and bitterly sweet moment comes at the end of the original Blade Runner film. Rutger Hauer plays an android that goes by the name of Roy Batty. Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, a detective hired to gun down four rogue androids, one of which is Batty.
Blade Runner was a groundbreaking film upon its release, and has remained iconic nearly four decades later. This film does an amazing job of questioning whether or not artificial intelligence can be considered conscious. Throughout the movie several of the androids show signs of real feelings, such as love and fear.
At the finale of the film, Batty and Deckard have a final showdown, which ends with Deckard falling off of a roof. Batty surprisingly grabs him at the last second, and rattles off the now infamous tears in the rain speech.
Batty may be an android, but he shows more emotion in this scene than most humans are even capable of feeling. This moment is nothing short of incredible, and will leave your body racked with chills.
Hauer sadly passed away in 2019, yet he will always live on through his various roles, especially that of Roy Batty.
