The ending of any film, like a TV show, has to leave you satisfied, without too many unanswered questions. You don't want to feel that you have wasted hours (or in the case of television shows, years) of your life. Get it right and you'll remember everything that was great about the film. Get it wrong and the chances are you'll only remember that bad final scene. Sometimes a great ending can elevate a film. The ending of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines was great because we didn't see it coming. It turned the film from a not-as-good rehash of Terminator 2: Judgement Day into a tragic story where our heroes were unable to save mankind, despite all their efforts. At the other end of the scale are terrible endings that ruin great films. There's nothing more unsatisfying then enjoying a film only for the last five or ten minutes to leave you hanging. They're worse than TV finales because you don't have hours and hours of great stories and characters to negate them. Get the ending of a film wrong and it's game over.
