Phase 2 is underway. Man of Steel is just a few months away, The Dark Knight Trilogy is still being debated over a year after its release, and the Justice League movie has been teased to death. Comic Book movies and their heroes are here to stay. Unfortunately, all comics are not made equal on the silver screen. Some heroes just cannot translate to a more populist appeal. Some costumes are just impossible to be made into live-action. And some heroes have had the misfortune of having terrible actors/writers/creative teams take them on. On the other side of the coin, Hollywood can reimagine a hero in a way that lets the imagination come alive to millions. Just one right film can reignite an entire series, and make our heroes beloved yet again. You're here for the best, and you're here for the worst. Let's start with the guy who finally smashed at the box office...
10. Hulk - The Avengers
Never has so much been accomplished with so little. Director Joss Whedon discovered quickly that true success doesn't just come from the great monologues, the dark scenes, and the tears of big men. Sometimes greatness comes from just letting your inner child run rampant on a giant alien death-ship. Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of the biggest and baddest Avenger ever came as a welcome surprise to movie-goers everywhere. We were suddenly paying attention not just to the big green angry guy, but the scientist who was struggling to find balance in his life. The Avengers' Hulk was somebody with enough depth to keep the introspectives interested, while the Hulk proved just how puny a god can be.
