10 Best Final Lines From MCU Characters

Killmonger's haunting final words are unforgettable.

Even though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is often criticised for trivialising the importance and finality of death, they've certainly made it count on a number of occasions.

But no character's demise, whether a hero or villain, can be truly great without an accompanying one-liner to hammer the point fully home.

A succinct, affecting, or thoughtful dying line can bring audiences closure for a character about to enter the Great Beyond - whatever that happens to be.

Whether you loved these characters or simply loved to hate them, they all went out with the sort of choice words we'd all love to have the presence of mind to think up as our time runs out.

While some beloved MCU characters sadly never got the opportunity to let out some quality last words, these good and bad guys had the time to make peace with those around them and spit a sentence that fans wouldn't ever forget.

In some cases, these lines even paid off years and years of careful build-up and character development, closing the book on their own life while nodding back to what came before...

10. "You Didn't See THAT Coming" - Quicksilver

The Line

"You didn't see that coming."

Why It's Awesome

Throughout Avengers: Age of Ultron, Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) have a cute little rivalry, with each saying to the other once, "You didn't see that coming?" when getting one over on them.

But after Quicksilver changes sides to help take down Ultron (James Spader) later in the movie, he ends up making the ultimate sacrifice by taking a barrage of bullets from one of Ultron's drones in an attempt to protect Hawkeye.

Before dropping to the ground, though, he offers up a repeat utterance of the phrase, albeit with an entirely different tone, emphasis, and context.

Beyond Hawkeye's surprise at having his life saved by his former foe, it's also a bit of a meta moment from writer-director Joss Whedon to the audience.

Considering that viewers were aggressively led to believe that Hawkeye was going to die in the movie - what with being unexpectedly introduced to his family and all - having Quicksilver rush in and take the hit was certainly a rug-pull that few fans saw coming.
