Financially, its an almost-guaranteed boost for box office numbers: Les Mis alone has made $411,719,000 worldwide in just over two months in theaters, and secured 8 Oscar nominations. In 2012, Broadway shows grossed over $1 trillion, despite tough economic times and notable PR disasters like Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark and the rough stage to screen transition of Rock of Ages marring recent years. These numbers indicate a built-in audience hungry for more of their favorite productions not to mention the legions of theater fans (many of whom are teens and young adults) who simply cant afford the price tag on a Broadway ticket, but would gladly shell out $10 for a chance to see their favorite show in a cinema.
