Comic book movies are big business in Hollywood at the moment, with some of the highest-grossing movies in cinematic history coming from the genre. That's not to say that they're a new concept - they've been going for years. The first live action films featuring comic book heroes go back to the 1940s when comic books themselves first became popular. As a result, over the years, these comic book movies have had a bit of everything - great characters, great actors, great plots, great action, great special effects and indeed vice versa with regards to every one of those things. They've also had some really stupid decisions on the parts of the main characters in them - both in terms of the heroes and villains. What's more, some of those decisions have been pivotal to the plots of these movies - to the extent that the movies wouldn't have actually happened without them. In that sense, the whole movies were actually based on contrived means. Had the characters in question not made monumentally - and in some cases outright unrealistically - stupid decisions, the events of said cinematic offerings wouldn't have taken place.
