Sometimes death is a laughing matter.

Great deaths in movies aren't just reserved for the horror, action or thriller genres. Those genres tend to be the ones that come first to the mind when thinking about movie deaths, but a good comical catastrophe can match up with the best of what they have to offer.

Death is an objectively morbid subject and horrible to even think about, which is exactly why it is so important to find a healthy way to cope. A good comedic death can turn something we shouldn't normally be laughing at into something we do, and in the process provide us with some much needed relief.

However, it isn't always about catharsis. Sometimes a death is funny just because of how completely and utterly absurd or shocking it is, making you wonder what the actual hell the filmmakers were thinking. Well done dark humor will have you questioning if you need to go see a therapist for laughing at something many others would find horrifying.

Now, with all that out of the way, it's time to strap in and take a look at the ten funniest deaths in comedy movies.

10. Dr. Strangelove - Riding The Nuke

We'll start this off with a classic.

Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove is one of the most outrageous comedies of all time. Even after over half a century it's still stood at the top of the satire game and the image of a guy riding a nuclear bomb and waving his cowboy hat as he falls is proof enough as to why.

This single shot punctuates the insanity fest that is Kubrick's masterpiece. He wants us to know just how ludicrous the back-and-forth doomsday politics of The Cold War are, and does so by, well, having a man ride the most dangerous man-made invention at the time like he's at a rodeo as it plummets to the earth.

When it comes to satire, the point of it is to exaggerate a subject in order to highlight the inherent absurdity of it, and with this iconic moment Kubrick does just that with side-splitting results.

Who knew someone could look so happy as they plunge to their death?
