Spoof: a British slang term for male ejaculate. It's also a term for a work of art which purposely mocks another. This list is about the latter. The earliest known film spoof may be 1922s Mud & Sand, but there have been many more since then. Some good, some bad, and a very few hysterical. Recent years have seen a slew of god awful attempts at movie parodies with the likes of Vampires Suck, and Epic Movie, leaving little hope for the future of this once proud genre. Thankfully for those who enjoy a good gut busting laugh, there is this list of 10 spoof films that will tickle your funny bone until you cant take it anymore (well, sort of).
10. Scary Movie (2000)
Master of horror Wes Craven reinvented the slasher genre with his hit film Scream, a movie that received high critical praise and enjoyed a great deal of financial success. Someone needed to take this smug film down a peg. Enter the Wayans brothers, who in 2000, stepped up to the challenge of putting Scream in its place with a laugh-out comedy known as Scary Movie, taking its name from the original title of Scream. Scary Movie spoofed not only Scream, but much of late '90s pop culture. Tackling Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Usual Suspects, and - in one memorable scene - the highly popular and highly annoying Budweiser Whats Up ad campaign. In the years since its release, Scary Movie has turned into a mildly successful and unfunny franchise, but none of that diminishes the outright hilarity of the first. While much of the movie may feel a bit dated today, for those who remember '90s Scary Movie can still bring in the laughs with scenes like Carmen Electra beating helpless Trick or Treaters with a baseball bat, or Shawn Wayans rocking out to Its Raining Men after checking his buddys prostate (if you catch my meaning).
