Now, it's fair to say that the hype for this film feels rather muted compared to most prior X-Men movies, and the mixed reviews certainly haven't helped, but there are still some exciting prospects to consider: at least a few characters will die, the movie may or may not write out some of its legacy cast, and it will definitely be setting up a new trilogy starring younger versions of old classics.

With a meaty 144-minute run-time, it's clear that Bryan Singer has mounted Apocalypse as an epic finale to the "First Class trilogy", and regardless of whether or not the movie is actually any good, it's surely going to change the X-Men landscape forever.

Here are 10 last-minute predictions for X-Men: Apocalypse...

10. Dark Phoenix Is Heavily Hinted At

The Prediction: Jean Grey becoming the Dark Phoenix in a future X-Men movie will be heavily implied through her interactions with Apocalypse in this movie.

Why It'll Happen: There's already a compelling theory out there that one of Apocalypse's Horsemen will be replaced by Jean Grey at some point in the film, and even if Apocalypse is able to manipulate her for just one single scene, it would provide a welcome window into the future potential for the character's iconic alter ego.

Why It Might Not: For one, the trailers seem to suggest that the Four Horsemen remain the same until at least the movie's climactic set-piece, and secondly, this could be too much to cram into one movie (even if it does run close to 150 minutes).

Dark Phoenix will almost certainly happen sometime down the line, but if Apocalypse's job is to establish a new trilogy of X-Men movies, then there's plenty of time to set that storyline up in the next film.
