10 Most Badass Horror Movie Survivors

Bloody, bruised, and battered - but alive!

Throughout the history of horror, many characters have been held up on a pedestal as rock stars of the genre. And for the most part, the majority of them have been the villains of the piece.

From Count Dracula, to The Wolfman, to Leatherface, to Jack Torrance, to Michael Myers, to Jason Voorhees, to Freddy Krueger, to Ghostface, to Jigsaw, and so, so many others with bad intentions, the supposed villains of horror are revered and championed on through their respective missions of bloodshed and brutality.

While these wrong 'uns often hog the limelight though, there's still that percentage of the horror fandom who love nothing more than seeing a great protagonist they can root for or relate to - and it's even better if said protagonist manages to somehow survive the terrors and torment that they're put through.

When faced with such dastardly and demented threats, however, it really can be an uphill task for heroic or innocent characters to make it out of a horror picture in one piece. It's not impossible, though...

Here then, are ten of the most badass survivors to have ever graced the world of horror.

10. Erin - You're Next

For a spell, it looked as if Sharni Vinson was on her way to becoming a major modern-day star of the horror genre.

Having first made a name for herself in long-running Australian soap Home and Away, Vinson's foray into horror saw her star in impressive offerings like You're Next, Bait 3D, Patrick, and House on Willow Street. But after House on Willow Street, Vinson's focus has seemingly switched solely to the Dance Boss reality TV show.

Out of the aforementioned pictures, You're Next is a genuinely brilliant horror movie. As animal-masked killers target a family at their remote, regal homestead, Vinson's Erin soon finds herself in the middle of a fight for survival.

With so many memorable visuals, a unique approach to the standard home invasion formula, and with a fun twist ending, You're Next jumped out from the pack and quickly became a favourite of all who saw it upon its 2013 release.

From nervous house guest to axe wielding warrior, Erin is a character who managed to stay with audiences long after You're Next's brisk 90-minute run time had come to an end - with her resourcefulness throughout the second half of the movie playing out like a bloody, brutal version of Home Alone's Kevin McCallister.
