Comic book movies are by their nature a tough genre to work with. You have the large expectations of fans while trying to appeal to a wide audience. Many movies have succeeded while others have failed miserably. Both the good and the bad contain their own versions of the ugly, the annoying characters. Whether they were made for the movie or if they are the star of the original comic the genre of comic book influenced movies have had an abundance of annoying characters over the years. Some are intentional while others are bad stabs at being awesome. All of them just grate the nerves one way or another. Some will say pointing out these characters is akin to fanboy whining but really, any genre can have annoying characters and often does. While I wont claim for a minute this is the be all end all list of annoying characters I will say each character on this list rubbed fans and myself the wrong way at some point.
To be fair, Jessica Biel had an uphill battle with this character from the beginning. She was clearly a throw in character to Blade Trinity since Whistler never even hinted at her once the entire two movies he starred. In addition, it was a stretch to have her also be a vampire hunter following in the footsteps of her father even though they had virtually no interaction. Her existence stretched the believably of the third Blade installment. Nevertheless, what really worked against her was her bad habit of playing her iPod while killing vampires. When you are already stretching the believably and likability of a character in a movie that is already asking you suspend some levels of believably it is a very bad idea to do something with a character that is downright implausible. How could she hear the vampires behind her? Yes, she actually does hear a vampire over her blaring music at one point. It just blows the whole film to pieces. Thankfully, Ryan Reynolds was there to make some parts watchable. The other aspect that became annoying about Abigail was Jessica Biel herself. She is a good actress and plenty hot as well but she just does not come across well in action movies. Her believability as a tough woman hero just is not there. She really comes across as eye candy, which hurts her performance. Not saying a woman cannot be attractive and carry a film but in her case, she falls a little flat.
