It's 2013 and we all survived the apocalypse. In fact, I barely even noticed the destruction of civilization. Instead, I spent New Year's Day trying to identify all the movies I've seen with NYE celebrations. Some of the movies I came up with, such as When Harry Met Sally, set their climax on December 31. Others, such as Young Guns, set a critical event on New Year's Day. Still others only mention the day in passing. Of course, thinking about these movies, I couldn't help but feed my burgeoning desire to write an article about my favorite NYE films. We've all got a list of favorite Christmas movies and most likely we all have a list of favorite Halloween movies, but do you have a list of favorite New Year's Eve movies? Well, I'm here to get everyone started on creating their own list of films. Here are my most memorable NYE moments from the cinema.
Honorable Mentions
Rosemary's Baby (1968) - While the climax of the film begins on New Year's Eve, to me it wasn't really a "memorable" NYE. Sleepless in Seattle (1993) - The imaginary conversation with the dead wife is memorable, but Meg Ryan is already in this list and I didn't want to include her twice. I'm sometimes annoying in that way. The Apartment (1960) - This is one of the better comedies of all time. I know we've all gotten used to great films like the original Arthur (yes, that was a shameless plug for another of my articles), but the humor of older Hollywood films is in a whole different class. I really wanted to put this one on my list, but my annoying tendencies took hold again. I already had three older movies in this article, so I relegated this great film to Honorable Mentions. Please forgive me.
