10 Things Wrong With Jupiter Ascending

Terrible acting and a poor script are just the beginning...

By Jack Pooley /

After being delayed from its original July 2014 release date, the Wachowskis' latest big-budget sci-fi flick Jupiter Ascending is finally here, and as almost everyone expected, it's dead on arrival. Indeed, the film has racked up a distressing 22% on Rotten Tomatoes so far, and is tracking to gross just $20 million this weekend, which with a $175 million budget (not including marketing) ensures it'll struggle to make its budget back worldwide. While Jupiter is absolutely a failure, at least it's one of the more interesting and ambitious blockbuster failures of recent years. It's certainly more memorable than, say, John Carter or The Lone Ranger, and it's difficult to argue with the movie's gorgeous visuals and exemplary set-pieces. It's just a shame there's not more to the film, and it ends up being a mish-mash of ideas that don't gel together at all. From some of the absurd acting to scripting issues and every little problem in between, it's a movie at once swinging for the fences and phoning it in in different areas. It's certainly worth one watch for sci-fi fans, but naturally, it's best advised to keep your standards incredibly low. Without any further ado, here are 10 things wrong with Jupiter Ascending, and note that SOME SPOILERS DO FOLLOW.
