10 Things You Didn't Know About Han Solo

What you never knew about the nerf-herder...

By Christian Bone /

Despite Star Wars fans being split on whether we actually need the upcoming Han Solo prequel movie, for Disney and Lucasfilm it's a no-brainer, capitalising on one of the franchise's most beloved characters. And in a series where nearly every character, main or supporting, is beloved (well, the characters from the original trilogy anyway) that is really saying something. While Luke is the audience identification figure and Vader and the Emperor are the personification of evil (for the most part), Han is the loveable rogue caught in the middle of it all. Along with Harrison Ford's other big character Indiana Jones, Han is one of the most iconic heroes in all of cinema who has transcended beyond the film's limits. Even if people don't know Star Wars, they know Han Solo. But a lot about the character - behind the scenes info or his adventures in Star Wars comics and books - is less well-known. Let's take a look at some fascinating facts about the scruffy-looking nerf herder that you probably never knew...

10. Harrison Ford Doesn't Care Who Shot First

George Lucas has made a lot of controversial changes to the Star Wars films, but surely the most maligned is the Han vs Greedo scene from A New Hope. (In)famously, Lucas augmented it so that Greedo shot at Han before Solo killed him - even though he was a bounty hunter and so wouldn't have missed at such close range and... ugh. Yet, while it means a great deal to fans of the character, Han Solo himself couldn't care less. Harrison Ford took part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session in 2014, where one fan asked him the big question: who did he think shot first? In typical laid-back style, Ford replied: "I don't know and I don't care." Well, guys, the man has spoken, so I suppose we should follow suit and put the question to bed. After all, I guess it is a small, insignificant issue in the grand scheme of things (Han was still going to shoot Greedo) and Ford is right not to give it a second thought. Though if he did, he would definitely say Han shot first, right?
