10 Tiny Details Actors Requested For Movies

The purple lightsaber was Samuel L. Jackson's polite request.

It's no secret that A-list actors can get a little over-eager with their on-set requests.

Just look at Kevin Costner demanding his own $4,500-per-night oceanfront villa, complete with a butler no less, while shooting Waterworld. This was while most of the cast and crew were forced to live in chilly apartments. Yikes.

But perhaps more interesting than gross, self-indulgent excess are those small, comparatively reasonable requests that actors have made while playing major, often career-defining roles.

Whatever the reason, these 10 actors asked their directors for one seemingly insignificant detail to be added to their character, be it a piece of wardrobe, a few lines of dialogue, or even a certain forward-thinking man-scaping choice.

None of these details drastically altered their respective movie, plot, or character in any major way, but they clearly meant something to the actor all the same, no matter that many of them went totally unnoticed by most viewers.

You probably wouldn't call most of these actors divas for these requests - again, most - because it's as true in Hollywood as it is anywhere else: don't ask, don't get...

10. Ben Affleck Requested NOT To Wear A Yankees Baseball Cap - Gone Girl

As much as David Fincher might be an exacting director who often demands dozens of takes from actors, he came into conflict with Ben Affleck while shooting Gone Girl for a wholly more petty reason.

The scene in question called for Affleck's character Nick Dunne to wear a New York Yankees hat while attempting to maintain a low profile at an airport.

Affleck, a die-hard fan of the Boston Red Sox, a team which has an historic rivalry with the Yankees, flat-out refused, requesting that he wear any other hat instead.

Of the incident, Affleck commented:

"I said, 'David, I love you, I would do anything for you. But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can't. I can't wear it because it's going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can't do it. And I couldn't put it on my head."

According to Fincher on the movie's home video commentary, production was shut down for four days while he and Affleck hashed out the disagreement - though he may have actually been joking.

Either way, Affleck got what he wanted, and in the end he wore a New York Mets hat instead.
