Can Batman Save Superman?

For years, the sequel was a loathed creature among film fans. Too often hastily assembled to cash in off the success of a movie that was only ever planned as a solo outing, sequels were derided to the point that by the early aughts, studios had instead moved to the "trilogy" (still technically sequels, but passed off as having been planned all along) and later the dreaded "reboot" (and let's not even get into talk of prequels). With reboots coming fast and furious, suddenly, sequels didn't seem so horrible any longer. Sequelitis was no longer an epidemic - at least sequels featured (usually) original stories. Over the next couple of years, a ton of big Hollywood franchises have new films coming down the pipe. Several are already being advertised. In fact, pretty much all of the Marvel properties are safe bets for success over the next few years at the very least. Not all franchises are so lucky however: with reboots struggling to connect with audiences and original films being as scarce as ever on the blockbuster scene (Insterstellar being one recent example, but there aren't many), sequels are once again in demand, but some of Hollywood's biggest franchises are looking a little long in the tooth these days, and a failed sequel might just signal the end. At least until the inevitable reboot. With that in mind, let's take a closer look at ten upcoming blockbuster sequels that will make or break their respective franchise.
