13 Best Movies From Otherwise Terrible Franchises

Diamonds in a sea of turds.

Hollywood absolutely loves franchises. It can't get enough of them. Many successful blockbusters and genre films get sequel after sequel after sequel, meaning there are an absolute ton of franchises out there for film fans to explore. But overall, when taking all of the films in a franchise into account, how many film series are genuinely great?

Unfortunately, not many.

There are exceptions, since franchises like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the MCU, X-Men and Die Hard among others have more good films than bad ones, but the majority of franchises are not worth watching the whole way through. In fact, many have only one worthwhile movie.

This isn't surprising; making one successful movie is hard enough and sustaining it across several follow-ups must be nigh-on impossible, but it's still a shame that more film franchises aren't more consistent, especially since many of them had plenty of potential judging by their better instalments.

13. Twilight - The Twilight Saga

Other Films: The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II.

Is the Twilight Saga the worst film series of all time? Well... it's certainly up there but it's probably not quite the worst, since the original film is actually OK so the saga does at least have one solid instalment.

While the terrible acting and dodgy dialogue that plagued the rest of the films are present to some extent in this first film, this is actually a surprisingly decent dark fantasy love story that's pretty entertaining to watch and is rather charming too (in an angsty, moody sort of a way).

On the whole, not a great film by any means, but a perfectly acceptable one that certainly feels like Citizen Kane compared to the sequels.
