2018 has been a year filled with movies both incredible and terrible, but also films so fundamentally bizarre you might not know what to make of them on a first viewing.
These are the films that, for better or for worse, leaned into their strangeness and milked it for every last drop. In one case it gave a veteran actor the stage to deliver one of his best performances ever, while elsewhere it simply prevented bad movies from also being boring.
But make no mistake, there were no more f***ed up, disturbing, upsetting, infuriating and straight-up puzzling movies released over the last 12 months.
Each made viewers wonder how they got made, what the cast and crew was thinking, and how anyone expected it to actually make a profit (as almost all of these movies either bombed at the box office or went direct to VOD platforms).
There have been better and worse movies in 2018, but none that burrowed quite so deep into audience's psyches through their aggressive desire to offend, confound and occasionally even entertain...
