Sequels are unquestionably Hollywood's bread and butter, because what makes better business sense than taking a non-gamble on a proven IP?

Decry the film industry's lack of original ideas as we might, these 15 films are almost sure to be confirmed in 2017, with studios either simply racking up the next sequel on a conveyor belt full of them, or filmmakers finally managing to nudge their long-standing passion project follow-ups through the filmmaking sausage factory.

We can always keep our fingers crossed for those elusive sequels that have hit a brick wall in recent years, but these are the films with a realistic prospect of being announced and possibly even starting production over the next 12 months.

From cynical horror to superhero fare and even a sequel you'd probably given up hope on, here are 15 movie sequels that will definitely be announced in 2017...

15. Kingsman 3

Kingsman was one of 2015's most unexpected box office successes, grossing a huge $414.4 million against a $94 million budget.

The second movie, The Golden Circle, is currently in production for an October release, and with its new American cast members such as Channing Tatum, Julianne Moore and Halle Berry, will have a more commercial presence worldwide. As such, it's likely to out-gross its predecessor, regardless of how good or bad the film actually is.

Short of an unforseen disaster at the box office (it's going up against Blade Runner 2049, which isn't really direct competition), Kingsman 3 will surely be confirmed before the year's out. Halle Berry's deal is reportedly for two movies, so Fox are clearly getting their ducks in a row already.
