15 Potential Plot Twists That Could Ruin Upcoming Movies

Star Wars...where everyone is related to everyone else.

There's nothing like a delicious plot twist to help transform a good movie into a great one. With the right execution, a sly revelation can completely turn everything we've seen on its head and bring new meaning to it. Then, there are those twists that don't quite work.

For every "Verbal Kint is Keyzer Soze" (sorry, spoilers), there's an "it was all a dream" reveal, and though these twists aren't quite that terrifying, they're dodgy enough that they could easily sink their movie in one fell swoop.

From unnecessary character deaths to overt fan-service and tricky re-workings of iconic comic book mythology, these shock twists have all been discussed over the last few months, and when the respective films finally hit cinemas, we'll be crossing our fingers for the plot to take another direction altogether.

Perhaps a few of them could work with the right execution, but even so, the odds aren't in their favour.

Here are 15 potential plot twists that could ruin upcoming movies...

15. Iron Man Dies - Captain America: Civil War

The Twist: We're all expecting Captain America to be the one put in the frame by Crossbones at the end of the movie (as per the comic), but what if Marvel Studios subverts all our predictions and has Tony Stark bite the bullet instead?

Why It Could Ruin The Movie: Because it'd feel like something done purely for shock value, much like the highly controversial Mandarin switcharoo in Iron Man 3. Sure, it could end up being a devastating, emotional twist, but it could also end things on a hugely sour note.

How Likely Is It?: Marvel Studios already have Robert Downey Jr. locked in for two Infinity War movies and a possible supporting part in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so unless these announcements are all part of a huge effort to troll fans, or Stark dies and is magicked back to life for future movies, there's no chance of it happening. Don't worry. 1/10
