It'd be a boring world if we all agreed on everything, right? Watching and discussing movies certainly wouldn't be much fun without a healthy diversity of opinion, but at the same time, often these lines are drawn so starkly that it's hard not to wonder what the hell people are thinking.

This is especially true of the divide between critics and audiences, for though pundits and the general public tend to agree on the standard of high-quality blockbusters, often there will be a shocking disparity between the tastes of those paid to have an opinion and, well, everyone else.

Easy though it is to place critics on a pedestal and give them a vague sense of "authority", an opinion is still only that, and in the case of these 17 movies, critics and general viewers - measured by Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB scores respectively - have staunchly disagreed on their merits (or lack thereof).

Though the stereotype persists that critics have high standards and casual moviegoers will enjoy just about anything, that's not always the case, and in many of these instances, it's the "casuals" who seem more in the right.

Again, though, it's all a matter of opinion, and whether you side with the critics or the public, you've got plenty of support on your side either way...
