The Marvel cinematic universe is huge, and it's not just how big the stars they have, but how much money the individual films actually rake in. Marvel did something perfect with the set-up for the Avengers movie: they took their time, introducing us to each character and their back stories, and building up everything perfectly. And thanks to cleverly marketed after-credits scenes and the self-perpetuating roll of hype, they built a brand of expectation and excitement that few franchises could ever hope to equal. And though the impact is unavoidable, and undeniable, Im not even that big a fan of all of the movies leading up to the Avengers. And even despite this, and my preference for DC, I was hugely excited for the Avengers movie. It was the perfect set-up for a strong franchise, and there's no reason a video game cinematic universe couldn't work the same way. Now, I know video game movies arent the greatest thing and more often than not, they end up being near the worst things, but hear me out. Nintendos live action film adaption of the popular Mario Bros. franchise is rightly considered to be a bad movie - in all honesty, it should always be considered as the model for how a Mario Bros. movie shouldnt have been done. But that doesn't mean the property deserves to be thrown away entirely: there is a possibility for success here, and it relies on the adoption of an approach similar to the Marvel cinematic universe. Basically, we need to see a Nintendo Cinematic Universe on the same scale. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only fan to want a big Marvel-esque cinematic universe, presenting four establishing films that all lead to a big Super Smash Bros. movie. And I know exactly how to get it done, with cast ideas, plot and generally why the properties deserve the big screen treatment. Please, open your mind and imagine these as summer blockbuster movies!
