I have to admit that I was never a massive fan of the Superman films. I always found the character too bland. The films never drew me in like they did so many others and I always thought the series was just really one-dimensional and unintentionally goofy. Give me Spider-Man, with his knowing wise cracks, any day of the week. The first interaction that I had with the character was through a Saturday morning TV show called Live & Kicking, which would regularly show episodes of the Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher show: Lois & Clark - The New Adventures of Superman. This was a show that I loved, as it didn't focus on the character of Superman but on his earth alter ego, Clark Kent. Yes, it was cheesy and predictable and yes, it was a bit ridiculous but, I think that was why my young mind took to it. Also Teri Hatcher was ridiculously attractive. So, when the news arrived that there would be a new Superman film, I wasn't overly excited. My only real attachment to the character was from a cancelled TV show in the early '90s. Then, as I began to read up on the film itself, things changed...
