9 Horror Movie Plot Points Secretly Introduced Earlier Than You Realised
If only you spoke Mandarin maybe you would've cracked the twist earlier...
If you consider yourself a super observant person then maybe one of your favourite things to do when watching films is pick apart every little prop and event. By doing this you're sometimes able to catch every little ounce of foreshadowing or every teasing reference to events that are yet to come, events that us regular people will be shocked by.
Horror films often put audiences so on edge that they're not exactly capable of paying calm attention to every little thing, rather they're hiding behind their fingers dreading the next jump-scare. Maybe this is why horror directors and filmmakers get away with hiding so many clues and hints throughout their movies.
Whether it's a big twist or just an as-of-yet-unreached plot point, there's a lot you can predict if you're looking in the right places and listening at the right times. But then again why put yourself through all that stress and effort - all the endless replays and painstaking pinpointing - when I can just tell you exactly where to look for some of them? Yeah, that's what I thought. You're welcome.
9. The Invisible Man (2020) - The Second Suit
One of my favourite films of 2020, The Invisible man is absolutely full of little Easter eggs, references and foreshadowing if you look closely.
Of course one of the biggest reveals we get toward the end of the movie is that the man in question is not working alone, in fact there are TWO invisible men collaborating. The idea of there being multiple people working together to torment Cecilia with their suits was actually seeded far earlier on than you’d think - even first appearing in the very first sequence of the film!
The movie opens with an incredibly tense few minutes of Cecilia executing her escape from her abusive household. She creeps around her house in silence, having given her partner Adrian sleeping pills to help keep him knocked out. To help keep her escape as untraceable as possible, she enters Adrian’s lab in the house’s basement to turn off the various security cameras.
His lab contains not one but multiple invisibility suits, as well as parts being tested to assemble more or enhance the current ones. We’re led to assume that only Adrian is chasing her but right from the start we’ve actually known that he could (and does!) have a horrible accomplice.
