Avengers: Endgame - Captain Marvel Explains Her MCU Absence
CinemaCon footage reveals why Carol Danvers hasn't appeared before now.
New Avengers: Endgame footage has explained why Captain Marvel hasn't appeared on Earth before now, despite Nick Fury being able to contact her.
Ever since Fury paged Captain Marvel in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War, there's been a question of why he never contacted her before now and, if he did, why she hadn't turned up. Captain Marvel's solo film gave us a bit more context to this, as she gave him the pager and told him explicitly it was only for emergencies, but that still didn't fully explain why events such as those in The Avengers or Age of Ultron weren't considered dire enough.
Walt Disney made their CinemaCon presentation, among which was a new look at Endgame. It featured a scene where the Avengers, including Captain Marvel, make a plan to go and face Thanos, and Carol Danvers gets cocky about her powers. As per Fandango's Erik Davis, Rhodey asks where the hell she's been all this time, to which she responds: "There are a lot of planets not as fortunate to have you guys."
This doesn't confirm whether or not Fury had tried to contact her before, but it does explain that she's been busy saving other planets in need (something we'll likely see more of in Captain Marvel 2), while the Avengers have yet to face anything they couldn't handle themselves. It's a quick way of explaining the issue, while also hammering home just how desperate the situation has now become for the Avengers.
