Avengers: Infinity War - Don't Expect To See Much Spider-Man

Sounds like Spidey won't have more than a cameo...

Given that Avengers: Infinity War is insanely big and has a cast-list well beyond 30 players, it shouldn't come as a great surprise that some of the characters we've come to love in the MCU so far probably won't get a great deal of screen-time.

Since we're being told that the film will mark the end of some of the original characters' arcs (whether because they're killed off or simply because they won't be relevant any more afterwards), they're probably the most likely to be most involved. And those who happen to encounter Thanos on his murderous rampage towards the Infinity Stones - i.e. the Guardians Of The Galaxy - will probably feature quite prominently too.

In that regard, while it's disappointing to hear it, the news that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will be taking a back-seat in Infinity War shouldn't come as a huge shock.

Kevin Feige revealed that his expensive wall-crawler won't be involved much more than he was in CIvil War. In other words, don't expect much more than a cameo. Feige spoek to Fandango to drop the news:

"I think it might feel bigger a little bit because of Homecoming and because of what people know from it, but it's about on par with [Civil War]."

It's obviously not the best news, but there's a whole second half to that story, remember, and Marvel have already talked up the likelihood of there being a split in the roster with some characters only appearing in Avengers 4 (or at least coming into focus more). And of course, Spidey isn't likely to even be an Avenger yet when it all kicks off (if he ever is) or even in Avengers 4, so expecting him to play a major role is a little illogical.

That doesn't make it any less annoying though.

We've already been told that Spidey will "lead" the MCU's post-Avengers 4 "rebirth", so while he won't be a major presence at the culmination of Phase 3, it won't be long until he swoops into focus far more substantially. Just hold on to that if you're sad.

Feige also teased that fans might have to "keep an eye out" for other characters from Spidey's world in the movie, though the obvious caveat says it's already "a pretty big crew" in those movies.
