After 23 movies and 11 years, the Infinity Saga has finally come to an end. Closed out by Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, the time has come for the MCU to move away from Thanos, and forward onto phase four. Introducing us to this new chapter in 2020 will be Black Widow.

After years of cementing herself as one of the best characters in the franchise, we will finally have the chance to explore Natasha Romanoff's past more so than ever before. Heading back to her first family, Black Widow promises to be another hit for Marvel Studios.

As per usual, details regarding the movie are few and far between, leaving us with little more than theories and rumours to tide us over until its release on 1st May. Based on the trailers, the source material, and the tiny insights the cast have given, there is no shortage of potential pieces to the latest MCU puzzle.

From returning characters, unexpected ties to the wider franchise, and a few potential ground breaking revelations about Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow could bring some real surprises to the table, and change the entire landscape of the MCU going forward.

12. It Will The First In A New Franchise

Though it has been a long time coming, and fans everywhere are over the moon we are finally getting it, Marvel Studios have certainly picked a strange time to release Black Widow. The character has been in the MCU since 2010, yet her solo movie is coming a year after her death.

Movies set out of chronological order aren't anything new to the MCU, but with Natasha having bit the dust in Endgame, it does limit the prequel somewhat. It is surprising then, that Scarlett Johansson reportedly referred to the project as 'a standalone franchise'.

This suggests that there will be more Black Widow movies to come, which is no bad thing. Natasha Romanoff has long been one of the most popular characters in the MCU, and any opportunity to further explore her life is a welcome one. There is still the struggle of fitting it in between her other MCU appearances however.

The first movie is set between Civil War and Infinity War, a span of just two years. It's unlikely that any more than one movie will take up this slot. Since Nat wasn't snapped away by Thanos a second Black Widow movie could shed some light on the five year time jump in Endgame, or even potentially delve further into her past from before Iron Man.

If there is another Black Widow movie however, who's to say that the titular Widow would be Natasha?
