Captain America: Civil War - 12 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (Dec 5th)

Goodnight, sweet prince.

By Simon Gallagher /

Now is the winter of superhero discontent. With both Captain America: Civil War and Batman V Superman releasing trailers within days of one another, this is primetime for anyone who likes their heroes to come with in-fighting and broken bromances. And inevitably, the fertile ground has led to even more theorising and rumour-mongering about what we can expect from Marvel's side of the hero v hero divide. Along with the unsubstantiated speculation and wild, excitable theorising, Marvel have also dumped a load of information out about the film, prompting further analysis that is beginning to paint an even more specific picture of the film's plot. So it's time for another run-down of the best and most outrageous rumours to hit the net about the MCU's epic battle flick...

12. Black Panther Is The Kingmaker

In the wake of EW's character reveals - which included a sweet new look at Panther's design - it was established that he has personal reasons to be upset with Bucky, rather than being a mercenary or aligning with Iron Man thanks to shared ideological beliefs. Thanks to the trailer's shot of the UN explosion, it is assumed he loses someone close to him in that explosion and blames infamous escaped mass murdered Bucky. That would explain why Martin Freeman's character is in Germany (more on that soon). With that in mind, his allegiance is also said to be "in flux" suggesting that it's actually his shift between teams that crucially turns the tide when the plot escalates. That is presumably based on his discovery that Bucky is not a bad dude. Rating: 8/10 It's pretty obvious that Black Panther is mad at Bucky or he wouldn't have left Wakanda to seek him out, but the idea of him being a kingmaker and throwing his weight behind Bucky has so far been unexplored. CinemaBlend suggested the twist, and it makes a lot of sense: T'Challa would have to drop his vengeful pursuit of Buck to allow the Winter Soldier arc to be resolved. Him actively changing sides would also be a nice way to make him seem more of a wildcard, which is a far better launching point for his stand-alone than having him toe a line.
