Doctor Strange 2: 8 Ways It Could Change The MCU Forever
Spider-Man, X-Men, and Evil Wanda? The Multiverse Of Madness looks set to live up to its name.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is shaping up to be a hugely important piece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe puzzle.
Not only will it serve as a sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange by continuing the stories of Karl Mordo and Christine Palmer, but it's also set to deal with the aftermaths of several MCU projects (Spider-Man: No Way Home, WandaVision, and Loki) making Strange's next outing a converging point for the last 12 months of the franchise.
But as is the MCU way, Doctor Strange 2 won't just be about wrapping things up - it'll also be about setting things up. To that end, both the post-credits scenes and the bulk of the film are bound to be loaded with story threads that will ripple throughout the MCU's future.
From addressing the status of the Avengers, to revealing the identity of the next big MCU villain - and maybe, just maybe, bringing back some fan-favourite Marvel actors to reprise their roles - there are several ways Doctor Strange 2 could leave an important, long-lasting mark on the franchise, so let's talk about them...
8. By Making Strange The Sorcerer Supreme
An interesting revelation in Spider-Man: No Way Home is that Wong is now the Sorcerer Supreme - not Strange, as fans had assumed.
This gives more context to Agatha Harkness' line in WandaVision, where she mentions that the Scarlet Witch's power exceeds the Sorcerer Supreme's. Now, we know exactly what this means: Wanda beats Wong. There's a tongue-twister for you.
But because Wong only gained that mantle due to Strange's absence after Thanos' snap - a "technicality", as Strange puts it - it might be possible for Strange to earn it back the legitimate way, whatever that process might look like.
Alternatively, maybe Wong dies in Multiverse Of Madness, or maybe he disappears for an extended period of time, forcing Strange to become the Sorcerer Supreme in his stead. There's a shot in the trailer where Wong seems to be in great peril, so it's very possible that he's taken off the board in one way or another.
Either way, it wouldn't be a total shocker to see Strange become the Sorcerer Supreme, and while that wouldn't exactly rock the MCU to its core, it would mean that Strange is duty-bound to protect the universe from mystical threats, which, in turn, could affect his involvement with the Avengers - a topic we'll discuss later on.
