Throughout its 44 year run, the classic sci-fi series has included some incredible characters, but also some truly menacing villains.

From Sith Lords to bounty hunters and military generals, the heroes of a galaxy far, far away have had to contest with some seriously powerful adversaries.

Star Wars is a classic story of good vs. evil and, in its time, has offered up some of the most notable villains in cinema history. During the movies, audiences have been treated to scenes of extraordinary power and evil that have greatly impacted the Star Wars universe as a whole.

However, not every villain in the original trilogy, prequels and sequels was a good one. Some were affected by terrible writing or were simply just not evil enough to be a true threat.

In this list, all the major movie villains are ranked according to their evilness, deadliness and overall impact. Spoilers ahead too, obviously!

18. Nute Gunray

Nute Gunray was the Neimoidian Viceroy of the Trade Federation and one of the members of the Separatists' Council.

He was a key asset in the start of the Clone Wars and the creation of the battle broid army. Having his strings pulled by Darth Sidious, Gunray orchestrated the successful invasion of Naboo in which he captured the Palace of Theed.

However, Gunray is at the bottom of this list. He has been shown to be an incredible coward, going out of his way to escape conflict and leave the fighting to his Battle Droids. Despite invading Naboo, he was easily captured and overthrown. Gunray has been shown to be of fairly low intelligence and was simply used as puppet for Palpatine to start his evil plan.
