Fast & Furious 8: 23 WTF Moments In The Fate Of The Furious

THAT baby sequence takes some beating.

Looking back at the history of the Fast & Furious franchise, it's remarkable - outrageous even - that a film that basically ripped off Point Break with cars and Vin Diesel and which wasn't exactly a showcase for acting or action would go on to pull in more than £4bn at the global box office. If you'd told even Universal that after the third movie in the series, they'd probably have sent you away doubled over in laughter.

But this is the world we live in: one dominated every couple of years by movies that are balls-out celebrations of muscle men and muscle cars, shouting FAMILY over and over and pulling off increasingly weird stunts. We might have been told there won't be space travel or dinosaurs in the franchise's future, but you probably wouldn't put it past the producers to have dismissed them as too safe.

In other words, Fast & Furious movies are absolute WTF bait.

They are films that almost provocatively defy logical scrutiny, but that doesn't mean they're absolved entirely from making dumb mistakes or baffling the life out of everyone. And who says WTF Moments even have to be universally bad? If you don't find any enjoyment in watching absolutely bonkers action that tells you to leave your brain and your prejudices at the door, you shouldn't be watching this franchise anyway.

Inevitably, spoilers will follow. Because all of the big shiny cars have them. Ha.
