Hawkeye may have to wait until THE AVENGERS?

Renner claims any firm offer to play the Marvel superhero will ultimately come down to whether the director chosen for The Avengers likes him or not.

Jeremy Renner might need to be a little more careful with his tongue if he is to win that massive franchise gig he has been craving for this year. I admire his honesty in interviews, actually I love it, because it means we are kept informed on the in's and out's of our most anticipated movies but I can't imagine Marvel being too pleased with how Renner is quick to tell us everything he knows. Speaking this week to Superhero Hype, Renner claims that his potential casting as the Marvel superhero Hawkeye will eventually come down to whether the director chosen for The Avengers movie is keen on him or not, and reading between the lines, it will depend on how long it takes for Marvel to find their man as to whether he would have time to cameo in Thor. "I haven't heard anything since I talked to three weeks ago. The last I knew is that they still have to find their director for 'The Avengers,' that's where he's really going to show up. They were just talking, 'Like maybe we should consider maybe hiring Hawkeye now' but there's no director on 'Avengers' so they don't really want to force-feed the director, 'Here's the whole cast.' It's a big role so they didn't want to do that to the director, so I think they might wait. I know they're interested, I'm interested, so we'll see if it works out." "Big role" - does that mean Hawkeye is one of the prominent players of The Avengers? If nothing else, it would certainly indicate that Marvel have BIG plans for the character, I guess going after Renner for such a role is evidence enough of that. From the talks with Marvel, Renner claims the character will be will be getting an upgrade for the movie... Yeah, going to be modernized, it's not going to be the guy with the big purple (mask), it's not going to be a guy in tights. It's going to be a guy in sunglasses and a vest. He's going to be more modernized and I'm gonna say, 'A cooler-looking version' and not the big weird costume he had on. I don't think they're going that route." Now Marvel just need to find a Captain America for director Joe Johnston, pour a lot of bourbon down Jon Favreau's neck so he will agree to helm The Avengers, and then find a villain suitable and threatening enough that it's gotta take six superheroes (Iron Man, Thor, Cap America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Fury and possibly more) to team up together to take him/her/them down. Will it be The Hulk?
