Jeremy Renner's got a HAWKEYE for Marvel?

Actor claims he is being considered to play Marvel's superhero archer in both Thor and The Avengers!

The team Marvel are assembling for their film universe right now, specifically leading up to The Avengers movie in 2012, continues to amaze and delight. With Iron Man 2, and the way Kenneth Branagh has been casting Thor over the past month or so, it is all about setting up the building blocks for the future, and I'm getting more and more excited by each one. Both Iron Man 2 and Thor will feature new supporting characters and a few cameo's from a great bunch of top, top actors who just add to the pool that Marvel will be able to build from in a couple of years time. Now we should note that this latest tidbit of potential casting from Empire Magazine (via Coming Soon) isn't set in stone just yet but the wheels have started to move and well, it's too good NOT to talk about it on this quiet Thanksgiving holiday.

slice_jeremy_renner_hawkeye_01Renner could be Marvel's Hawkeye? I haven't seen Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker yet but he's been around for a while now and from what I've seen of his career so far he is the real deal. EXACTLY, the kind of guy that Marvel need in their universe, and we know he has the hunger for this. He pushed hard for a role in Sylvain White's The Losers, and he was really unlucky to lose out to the great Tom Hardy for the role of Mad Max in George Miller's upcoming revival, but chasing these kind of movies, these kind of roles, show his passion. Speaking to Empire, he claims Marvel and thinking of him as Hawkeye for both The Avengers and a cameo in Thor...
"Hawkeye could be interesting," he told them. "They're going to send me some stuff on it, see what it is, but I think they're pretty awesome, trying to make superhero movies almost plausible and not just some fantasy thing." €œIf I was a betting man, I would bet that Hawkeye would probably show up in Thor, and then be in 'The Avengers,'€ he told them, €œBut do I know for sure? I can€™t say. But I€™d love for that to happen. It€™d be fun.€
Hawkeye is Marvel's answer to the Green Arrow at DC... an archer who doesn't miss, a character with a bit of a cocky attitude, he isn't actually too far removed from Renner's past filmic characters. In Marvel continuity, he was inspired to be a costumed hero by Iron Man, and falls in love with Soviet Spy Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson's character in Iron Man 2) and she tricks him into stealing from Tony Stark, so you would think it would have made more sense for him to cameo in Iron Man 2 and he could have been inserted into that storyline. With Iron Man 2 out in May, it is of course, most definitely too late for that but still, a cameo at the end (which is probably all he will get in Thor) would have made more sense in that movie. For now, all we know for sure is that Marvel have plans for Hawkeye. We really hope it'll be Renner, but if it's not, it will be cool to see the character, whoever ends up playing him.
