Oscar Nominations 2021: 7 Ups & 8 Downs

A diverse set of nominees with some outrageous snubs.

The nominations for this year's Academy Awards have finally been unveiled, in what's undeniably been the most agonisingly, exhaustingly prolonged awards season of all time.

With the precursors all out of the bag, it fell to the Oscars to place a capper on the season, and though the ceremony still doesn't take place for another six weeks, the road to the final awards show of the year is now fully mapped out.

As with any year, the nominations were a mixed bag of pleasant surprises and frustrating snubs, though there was generally a lot less to be majorly upset than in recent times, largely thanks to the Academy's evidently successful diversity initiatives.

It may not have been the most exciting year for film for obvious reasons, but regardless of the state of the world, the Academy still rustled up a rock solid slate of nominees across the board, albeit with a few baffling inclusions and head-scratching omissions.

While it seems like this year's Oscars won't be offering up much outside the norm where winners are concerned, we've still got six weeks to cheerlead our unlikely faves and hope for the best...
