Oscars 2017 Nominations: 5 Things They Got Right (& 4 They Got Wrong)
The good and the bad, the pleasant surprises and shocking snubs, from this year's Oscar noms.
It's time for the awards season race to enter its final stretch.
The Golden Globes are well out of the way, and now the nominations for this year's Oscars have been revealed (in an audience-free announcement, a departure from tradition).
We now know who'll be donning the tuxes, getting asked which designer dresses they're wearing, and all other sort of red carpet nonsense before the awards themselves are handed out, in a ceremony presided over by Jimmy Kimmel (which should guarantee it's a better hosted affair than the Globes).
La La Land was expected to lead the way, but it's still managed to surprise with a mammoth 14 nominations - equalling the record. Next up are Arrival and Moonlight with eight, then Manchester By The Sea, Lion, and Hacksaw Ridge with six. As ever, some things went exactly as predicted (Best Picture, Actor, and Supporting Actress for example), while there were surprises and snubs a-plenty too.
