Hollywood's box office is a fickle, fascinating beast, which can so often surprise analysts and film buffs alike, with inevitable bombs becoming surprise smash hits and sure-thing box office monsters turning in tepid results. Even with that in mind, it's easy to single out the most troubled and dubious box office prospects of the next 12 months, from bloated, wildly over-budgeted blockbusters to reboots nobody asked for, and some more modest projects that may nevertheless struggle to find an audience.

Given that at least a few of these movies will probably end up being pretty good, one can only hope that audiences actually decide to turn up for them, but working from recent box office trends, it's hard to imagine any of them managing to actually double their production budgets (the general point at which a film enters profitability).
