As we've said previously, Predators has performed adequately enough ($46 million from a $35-40 million budget, before the same worldwide) to warrant a similar-sized sequel at Fox and producer Robert Rodriguez has confirmed to IGN recently that he is definitely keen on doing more films that revolve around the titular intergalactic humanoid creature. So it's on...
" said, 'Let's do some other ones. What other story ideas do you have? Because it was like, let's test out the market with this one. They really wanted it to be pretty contained, pretty scaled-back. They didn't want to put too many of the ideas into it that we could save for a second one. So we could see what the appetite was, because the bigger movie would actually be what comes following that. That kind of sets up a new storyline, new location and world, and then you can really go crazy from there."
Rodriguez revealed his next step is to brainstorm with writers and see who comes up with the best ideas, though it sounds from the quote above that he has a blueprint for what he wants to do. When asked about the title, however, he admitted to having not a clue as to what it would be called. May we suggest Predators Unleashed? With director Nimrod Antal clearly not a career franchise guy, it's likely he won't return for the sequel. Will Robert Rodriguez step in as "the man behind the wheel" then? "I don't know," he laughs.
"I think I have too many people wanting me to do Sin City 2 first!"
Damn right, Rob! As for Sin City sequels, there's been too much talk about and not enough filming for way too long. Robert Rodriguez needs to get himself nicely seated in the directors chair, round-up Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Mickey Rourke, and whomever else was interested before, and get this baby out and rolling! He can't just keep dropping hints and one-line-answers forever and expect to keep our interest when he is paying for his expensive studio set-up by making more Spy Kids movies.
