PREDATORS director hopes to shun sequel to make his original passion project PARAFFIN

For way too long, it was commonplace to expect the worse from any movie involving either Alien and Predator, and when the two outer-space icons were in a movie together; well forget about it! But Robert Rodriguez resurrected a neat idea he had in the 90's, has found himself a hungry young director Nimrod Antal (Vacancy, Armoured) to make it, rounded up the kind of quality cast this franchise just isn't used to (Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Laurence Fishburne), and I'm sure I speak for every Predator fan, myself included, when I say that there's much optimism over what they have achieved here. We are seeing the movie on Monday night (opens at the end of the week) and here's hoping it breathes new life into what feels like a much drained character right now. Antal recently spoke to The Playlist and has revealed that his next project may not be a direct Predators sequel, which is certainly expected if the film performs next week. Instead, he wants to direct his passion project Paraffin, described as a "dystopian thriller". "Yeah, I have a passion project that I've been writing for a few years called, "Paraffin." I'm going to try to get that going. But at the same time I'm just keeping my options open and trying to appreciate the moment. Just open up and see what happens." When asked what Paraffin was about exactly; "I can't quite give you a storyline yet... I can give you a teaser: men and women will build a boat out of plastic bottles in Cuba to escape oppression, right? So imagine if our world has become that oppression. You aren't building plastic bottle boats anymore, you have to build something else to get out of here.""It's actually the one I wanted to write and direct right after 'Kontroll.' So that's what I'm doing next." I'm extremely optimistic about Predators if what we've heard and seen so far plays true in the actual movie. And if it does and we've all got ourselves a winner then more movies featuring the heat-vision loving creatures will be churned out in no time. That being said, I find this Paraffin thing really interesting and we always like to back 100% originals, especially sci-fi movies here at OWF.
