Reports are coming in that Universal Pictures is planning a sequel to the 1988 comedy, Twins. So the report goes, the plan is to re-team the original's stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito, with a surpise thrid brother thrown into the mix... Eddie Murphy. The Hollywood Reporter also says that the original film's director, Ivan Reitman will also return to the project as a producer. Okay, okay this sounds like someone's dropped an April Fools joke a wee bit early doesn't it but I have to say as a big fan of the original Twins and my constant hope that Eddie Murphy will return to form (no folks, Tower Heist was not that promised return despite reports to the contrary), this sounds like a dream project that should happen even if it feels too crazy to actually happen. The original film, via flashback showed the birth of the two unlikely twins with the science project behind it all laid out quite clearly, so shoehorning Eddie Murphy in as a third brother seems quite the stretch, on a number of levels but you know what, I think we could all let this one slide if this trio team up for a sequel. With Arnie's come back about to hit a higher gear with a bigger role in Expendables 2 later in the year (as well as filming for a few other projects), Devito's recent fun turn in The Lorax and Eddie at least hinting he's trying to return to the sort of stuff we love him for, this could be a great vehicle for all of them. So stay tuned and we'll bring you more news if this unexpected sequel idea turns into anything beyond a fun idea.
