Spectre: 5 Theories For Who Andrew Scott's Denbigh Really Is

And you thought Oberhauser was definitely Blofeld...

By Simon Gallagher /

While the world has obsessed over who Oberhauser is and how Sam Mendes is going to introduce Blofeld (rather than if), nobody seems to have noticed that Andrew Scott is playing a very intriguing role in Spectre. It's probably easiest to suspect that Scott - who was excellent as Moriaty in Sherlock - will be playing a villain. He has the look of a deranged psychopath, and a defiantly evil forehead, and now the last trailer has shown him very briefly fighting M, so that's enough for some to accept that he's a wrong'un. But even that suspicion doesn't answer who the hell he is. And it does feel like the studio are purposefully being evasive when it comes to showing anything of his character. It's very much a case of his being conspicuous by his absence, which suggests all sorts of possibilities; every single one of those theories seems to suggest he's key to the narrative in some way. And with less than a month until release, now's the perfect time to get into some theorising over who he's actually playing... Warning: This post contains spoiler discussion and theorising for Spectre, including discussion of possible early drafts of the script. Proceed with caution if you're of a nervous disposition.
