Spectre: 5 Theories For Who Andrew Scott's Denbigh Really Is

5. He's The New Bond

Despite all the talk of Idris Elba or Tom Hardy or Chiwetel Ejiofor taking over as the next Bond (or Hugh Jackman, if you want to throw in a curve ball), there's a chance the replacement is already in place, ready to step in and assume the mantle of "James Bond". That would of course probably require Daniel Craig's Bond to be killed off at the end of Spectre, which might seem an outrageous suggestion, but it would finally give credence to the long-held theory that "James Bond" is simply a code name. And that would be a good thing, as it would help explain the actor changes in a satisfying and very clever way. So, Craig's Bond would be killed off, and Scott's agent would be immediately spirited into the role, replicating M's transition at the end of Skyfall. Clearly, that would require some explanation of why he's seen fighting M in the trailer, but that seems like such an on the nose scene to add to a trailer that it might well be misdirection. And if you think it's unlikely that Craig would be killed off, consider how keen he seems to be not to return to the role at all. In conversation with Esquire, he offered the following when asked if he'd be back: "I don€™t know. I really don€™t know. [...] Honestly. I€™m not trying to be coy. At the moment I can€™t even conceive it." Even more starkly, when asked if he actually WANTED to do Bond again, he was pretty clear:
"At this moment, no. I have a life and I€™ve got to get on with it a bit. But we€™ll see."
Alternatively of course - as teased by the unfortunate Sony leaks - Bond might simply retire, which would require a new figure in his position.
