Not since Sam Raimi first introduced audiences to the famed webslinger in 2002 has there been such huge expectations for a Spider-Man movie. Sony's first trilogy gave the world the superhero film to beat in Spider-Man 2 before ending on a bum note with Spider-Man 3. Marc Webb's rebooted The Amazing Spider-Man franchise delivered a sizzling romance between Peter and Gwen and gave audiences an arguably better portrayal of Spider-Man himself. But it was lumbered with villains and stories that failed to make the desired impact. Now Spider-Man is returning to his roots and joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a stunning deal between Sony and Marvel. This version of Spider-Man will turn up in a Marvel movie - everyone's money is on Captain America: Civil War, given the character's prominence on that comic story line - before he gets his own solo outing in 2017. The wishlist for this new Spider-Man movie is going to be impossibly high. Fans are expecting the greatest cinematic adaptation of the webslinger yet and nothing short of perfection will do. Naturally there are going to be those that are disappointed, but Marvel/Sony's Spider-Man (take three) can still learn from the best and the worst of the previous two series.
