Star Wars: 14 Awesome Deleted Scenes You Won't Believe They Cut

"Kill your darlings" is a classic turn of phrase that implores artists to get rid of those moments and ideas they cling to most eagerly, in order to strip away any hint of self-indulgence and leave behind a work of art that's all the better for it.

Unfortunately, George Lucas and the other filmmakers who have worked on the Star Wars franchise may have taken that a little too literally when they banished these outstanding moments to the cutting room floor, where they endure as mere home video extras, sometimes in mediocre quality no less.

These scenes, whether they simply add humour, character development or underline an unclear plot point, all should've remained in their respective films, adding greater depth, emotion and intrigue to the mix.

Though there are countless fan edits online which have attempted to reconstitute many of these scenes into their respective films as coherently as possible, it's just not the same.

For one, many of the scenes haven't been through the full post-production process, and as far as Star Wars canon is concerned, they're largely either ignored or wiped from the continuity entirely.

While these fantastic moments will endure with the fanboys regardless, it's a damn shame they'll never get the official treatment and recognition they deserve...
