We now all know that there will be a new Star Wars movie every year after 2015. So far it appears that Disney are set to continue the "Skywalker Saga" arc for the next three releases. With rumours of films focused on Han Solo, Boba Fett, Yoda and other characters, I wanted to look at the wealth of material that already exists. For years prior to the Disney announcement, this franchise was described as "dead" or "milked." Yet it has produced a vendible vault of stories and characters waiting to be adapted from the Star Wars Expanded Universe (SWEU). The Star Wars Expanded Universe covers thousands of years and goes into an amazing detail about every element of the world. This has created a great framework for the stories of the films to survive in and remain fresh for fanboys like myself. Yes, some are really terrible. However, there are enough well-written and developed story arcs in the SWEU to allow for some really cool cinematic adaptions. My WhatCulture! colleague Paul Sorrells has written about this subject here. I wish to discuss a few that he has overlooked. Alongside the world of novels, there are graphic novels, comics, video games, and animations to explore. I will omit the obvious Han Solo, Yoda and Boba Fett stories as they seem very likely to happen, along with those touched on by Paul. Here are 5 Star Wars Expanded Universe stories they should definitely adapt in future cinematic episodes (and why they'd make great movies).
