2012 ended with a bang last year with the stunning announcement that George Lucas had sold his coveted Star Wars franchise to the Walt Disney Company. With that momentous announcement, it was also revealed that with the acquisition there would be a sequel trilogy to follow the events of the original trilogy. 2013 was a year in which the Internet was bombarded with a huge number of castings rumors surrounding the up coming film but little in the form of story details. Other than the revelation that JJ Abrams would be directing the project, 2013 was a quiet year in relative terms to news revolving around the film. As 2014 has now dawned, the world anxiously awaits big news relating to the new Star Wars film. With that being said, we are all left to our own thoughts and desires over what we want to see on the big screen. The same feelings permeated the Internet after it was announced that there would be a prequel trilogy that took place prior to the classic trilogy back in the mid-1990s. We all assumed that we would see Darth Vader, but were left curious as to what other creatures we might encounter along the journey. When it was all said and done, we were introduced to the acrobatic bad ass that was Darth Maul, the mystery that was Darth Sidious, the Jedi-turned-Sith that was Count Dooku and the half alien, half cyborg predecessor to Darth Vader that was General Grievous. With the sequel trilogy on the horizon in roughly two years time, we are not only asking who the heroes will be, but more importantly who the centrepiece villain of this new trilogy will be. The Star Wars Expanded Universe is home to a rogues gallery in which some of the worst scum and villainy in the galaxy have not yet been seen on screen to date. Although I doubt we'll see any direct adaptations from anything related to the Expanded Universe, it goes without saying there is a plethora of source material in which Abrams and company could use. Please be warned: the following article contains spoilers to the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
