The 2022 edition of the SXSW Film Festival just recently wrapped up, and while the Texas-set fest - which again operated as a physical-virtual hybrid this year - hasn't ever been a launchpad for Oscar hopefuls, it has reliably served as the birthplace for fantastic genre films and future cult classics.

This year's festival offered up a dizzying platter of quality projects, from hotly anticipated A24 movies due to hit cinemas soon, to more niche art-house films still seeking distribution, and unforgettable documentaries likely to be acquired by a streaming service before you know it.

Most of us already have more movies on our watchlists than we can ever find time to see, and coming away from SXSW you've got another 20 to keep in mind.

From films set to receive theatrical releases in the coming weeks or months to niche movies primed to premiere on streaming, these 20 films offer a diverse mix of genres and certainly provide something different from the big-budget blockbusters dominating cinema screens these days.

Don't sleep on what are sure to be some of the most interesting and entertaining movies of the entire year...

20. Everything Everywhere All At Once

By far the single most raved-about film coming out of SXSW this year was this sci-fi comedy from directing duo Daniels (Swiss Army Man, The Death of Dick Long).

Michelle Yeoh has earned some of the best reviews of her career - which is no mean feat - for her central performance as Evelyn, a Chinese immigrant swept up in a multiverse-spanning adventure which sees the actress portraying numerous wacky, gleefully meta variations of her protagonist.

At once an incredibly energetic action film and well-crafted character comedy, Everything Everywhere All At Once has the potential to be one of the year's big breakout hits, or in the very least endure as a superbly constructed cult fave.

Everything Everywhere All At Once releases in the US on March 25.
