It has been 5 months since The Avengers came out and its now finally available on DVD and Blu-Ray. Nearly everyone in the world has seen this movie at least once. We can all agree that Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk were the funniest and most appealing characters in the film. Wait, isn't there someone missing? I could have sworn that Marvel advertised four big characters for months. Readers, do you remember who the other character was? Oh, thats right. His name was Captain America. The man who symbolizes our country and fights to make sure this country is never destroyed. He is the pinnacle of humanity. We should strive to be like Captain America. So why it is that he was somewhat forgettable in the Avengers? Whenever I asked someone who they believed the best characters were I always received a similar answer. Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk were the best with Black Widow behind them. Some people thought Cap was useless in the movie. I even had one person state that nothing would change if Cap wasn't involved in the movie. I was baffled by this. He is Captain America. He is the leader of the Avengers. There is no way he is useless like these viewers are saying. Then I saw the Avengers for a second time. I started realizing what a lot of people were saying. The complaints are really evident in the Helicarrier scene. Iron Man is rebuilding an engine on his own. Hulk and Thor are duking it out like Titan VS God. Black Widow is fighting Hawkeye. Even Nick Fury is kicking ass. What is Cap doing? He is pulling a lever and struggling to defeat simple henchman. What an amazing hero he was? In the final battle, you see Cap getting beat up the worst out of everyone. He takes a grenade then lands hard on a taxi cab. He gets shot in the stomach and needs to be rescued by Thor. What depresses me is that the movie was supposed to be told in Caps point of view. Even with a lot of his scenes cut, he still gets the most run-time out of everyone. Did Marvel and Joss Whedon make a mistake by not using the original vision? Would that have helped Cap in the eyes of the movie goers? What can they do to make Captain America more appealing?
