The Disaster Artist Review: 8 Ups & 1 Down
One of the year's best films. Seriously.
Oh, hai! It's been in the works for a long time, but James Franco's tragi-comedy about the creation of Tommy Wiseau's legendarily awful movie The Room is finally here. And you know what? It's pretty damn fantastic.
Early reviews have been glowing so far and the film has even earned its share of awards buzz, which as excessive and overzealous as it might sound, is actually totally on the money.
If you're feeling exhausted by all the blockbuster bloat and prestige films full of hot air right now, here's an awards-worthy drama that's completely free of pretense, an hilarious and surprisingly potent film about the toils of filmmaking and the joy of friendship.
While it most certainly won't scoop any Oscars next March, at least we might get to see Tommy Wiseau presenting at the Oscars, which would make it all worth it. Until then, this excellent film will have to do, and against the odds, it's one of the year's best. Oh sweet, delicious irony...
